Mouthwatering clashes as A Division programme resumes

By Bereng Mpaki

MASERU- The highly entertaining A Division League resumes tomorrow after a one-weekend break as match officials undertook their mandatory physical and oral tests.

The two-stream league has been particularly entertaining this season, with most matches characterised by an avalanche of goals.

League spokesperson Lehlohonolo Borotho has, once again, expressed satisfaction with the level of competition among rival teams.

“Our league continues to shine, in terms of providing more goals for the entertainment of our supporters.

“We all know that supporters want to see goals when they attend matches, so this season our league has been doing just that. It also shows a certain level of competitiveness from our league,” Borotho told Public Eye on Wednesday this week.

Meanwhile, Northern Stream log-leaders,  Mphatlalatsane face their toughest test yet, when they welcome neighbours Nyenye Rovers tomorrow,  in a local derby.

Currently three points clear at the top, with 23 points in 10 games, Mphatlalatsane are on course for a quick return to the Premier League, after being relegated last season. Mphatlalatsane’s  last league match was a 5-0 demolition of Roaring Lions, a fortnight ago.

But Rovers, who are in third place with 19 points, are also in the race for the league title and will surely give Mphatlalatsane a good run for their money. Nyenye played to a goalless draw at home, against  second-placed Sefothafotha in their last league match.

In tomorrow’s other fixtures, Sefothafotha welcome Butha-Buthe Fast XI, while Roaring Lions host Litahabaneng Golden.

On Sunday, struggling Butha-Buthe Roses are at home to Lerotholi Polytechnic, while Qalo host bottom-of- the-table Butha-Buthe Warriors in a local derby.

In the Southern Stream, second-placed Rovers will have a chance to top the log-standings should they  win their two matches this weekend. On Saturday, they host struggling Qacha’s Nek LMPS, but should however, be aware of the danger the latter pose.

In another Saturday clash, fourth-placed Swallows, who trail log-leaders, Qoaling Highlanders, by two points at 18 points in 10 games, visit third-placed Maseru Naughty Boys for a potentially explosive encounter in Roma. Both sides are coming from morale-boosting wins in their last league matches.

After tasting defeat for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss against Swallows, Highlanders will hope to return to winning ways when they welcome Mabeaona at Old Europe in the first match of a double-header that will also include Kick4Life and Melele.

On Sunday, Rovers play Melele, while Kick4Life welcome Qacha’s Nek LMPS. Arsenal and Liphakoe do not have any matches this weekend.
